About Roz Thurner
Roz Thurner is a seasoned entrepreneur and the owner of R. Café and Catering, along with Success Team MKE. She has been married for 45 years with a son named Gary. She attended Stratton, Alverno, and MATC where she studied accounting, business, advanced clothing construction, and earned a teaching certificate. Roz was hired out of college by Gimbels to audit their newest acquisition. She then worked in the fashion industry for over 25 years and in the food industry for 20 years and counting.
Your list your occupation as Entrepreneur. What does that mean to you?
“because I don’t think of having a job, I never thought of it as having a job. I was very blessed, my mom always told me I could do anything I put my mind to. And so, I appreciate the challenge…”
What does your business do and why?
“Well R Café is located in the central library at 8th and Wisconsin. And we are all about fresh and fabulous. So, we make as much from scratch, all of our soups and sauces…”
How do you recharge?
“What I have found, and I discovered this years ago. Its retreat, reassess, reattack. Sometimes you just need a day or two or a couple hours…”
Can you share with me your most successful or favorite networking story/experience that you’ve had?
“at the start about 20 years ago, through networking, I met a lady who has very prominent at Alverno. And we kept connecting off and on at different events. And then eventually she invited me to a meeting that she was attending…”
How do you stay in front of, or best nurture your network community?
“Well in the past I would do newsletters from my café, which we will be starting again this year. And that’s a great thing as I’ve gotten calls right after I sent it out…”
What advice do you have for the professional on growing their network?
“I would really say, it's important to build relationships. The biggest thing I see people not doing in networking groups is making sure people know what you do.”
Digital networking or traditional networking?
“I still prefer traditional. I’m on Facebook and all of those other things but I have to be honest, there might be days and weeks before I check it…”
If you could go back 20 years, what would you tell yourself to do more or less of regarding your career?
“I think id pace myself differently. And maybe be more consistent…”
What book are you reading right now?
“Well Sunday I picked up a book by Barry John Bishop and it was called Un-F blank yourself, get out of your head and get into your life…”

“…Build your mastermind group.”
