Connect with Jordon

Our first guest, Jordon has over 10 years of online marketing experience, and has managed over $40 million in paid search spend. Jordon has managed digital marketing for over 75 companies, ranging from start-up to Fortune 50 companies throughout the US, Canada and UK.
His expertise in eCommerce was in full play while managing PPC in-house at Best Buy, while his efficiency and targeting expertise helped multiple for-profit higher education clients drive inquiries and enrollments. He also writes and speaks about search marketing on a regular basis. Jordon founded Granular, a digital marketing agency, in 2014.
How important is the level of experience when it comes to PPC managers?
· “I think it’s very important, we’ll focus on that at Granular than other places because it’s one of our big differentiators… It’s like looking at a pilot; do you want someone who just learned how to fly to land your 747 or do you want someone that has 10,000+ hours of experience to fly your plane?”
What’s the most you’ve ever spent in one day with PPC?
· “I was lucky enough at Best Buy to spend over $350,000 on my three accounts that I managed, not including the 5 other accounts on the team.”
So, we happen to have matching tattoos of Dachshunds, let’s talk about that.
· “We share a tattoo that is the Picasso style, one line drawing of a Dachshund, it just goes to show you should try and meet people with similar interests.”

Share with us one of your best networking stories
· “I was standing in the back of a conference and during the break I felt obligated to talk to him and it ended up being this guy who’s really good at inbound style SEO marketing practices and he ended up helping me get a job at Rasmussen College where we worked together.”
How do you stay in front of your network or community?
· “The way that I stay in front of people is by staying in touch on Twitter, social media, or anything else electronic because it’s just a lot easier and takes less time. My method is a soft touch approach, just liking something or commenting on something.”
What advice do you have for business professionals looking to grow their networks?
· “If you’re outgoing and extroverted, go to every event you can. If not, I would definitely say to build your social network up and make sure you’re out there and people can find you.”
Digital networking or traditional networking?
· “Personally, definitely digital, but it’s a mix of both, you have to push yourself to go to traditional meetups too, that will push you the furthest.”
If you could go back 20 years, what would you tell yourself to do more or less of regarding your career?
· “I’m in the camp of ‘No Regerts’ but to answer your question I would probably push myself to do more of the extroverted stuff. Shake some more hands, do some more networking stuff.”
Who would you love to connect with and do you think you could do it within 7 degrees?
· “I would just like 20 minutes of Jeff Bezos’s time, he’s grown an insane company to the point where I don’t think anyone understands how far ahead they are. The weird thing is, I’m only like 2 degrees separated from him because I know the old Target CEO well enough that he could introduce me to Jeff.”
What book are you reading right now?
· “I just finished re-reading ‘The Lean Startup’ which everyone should read.”
Any final words of advice for our listeners??
· “The most important thing is to make sure you’re not trying to shoehorn yourself into the wrong network.”
